Pierre-Alexandre “P. A.” Parenteau
Born March 24, 1983 (age 28) in Hull, Quebec, Canada
Right winger for the New York Islanders
Recently I was thinking about Parenteau because of something we’ll mention later and figured we need to spotlight more Islanders! Parenteau came up in the QMJHL, playing for the Moncton Wildcats, Chicoutimi Saguenéens and Sherbrooke Casters before he became draft eligible. (Actually, he spent some time with Chicoutimi and his time with Sherbrooke after being drafted in 2001 by Anaheim.) While part of the Anaheim organization, he spent a lot of time with their old affiliate the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, including the non-NHL year, and the ECHL-level Augusta Lynx. Then when Anaheim switched its AHL affiliate to the Portland Pirates, Parenteau spent time there…before being traded as part of a large deal to Chicago. While with the Blackhawks, he made his NHL debut in the 2006-07 season. He also played a lot of time with the Norfolk Admirals. But he didn’t spend long in the Windy City–next up: New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of (bad grammar), thanks to a trade to the Rangers.
Yes, the Rangers. He’s been on both sides of the intra-New York rivalry. However, once again, he was a minor-leaguer playing for their AHL team the Hartford Wolf Pack. He did score his first NHL goal as a Ranger in 2009 against the Islanders. No, seriously, against Dwayne Roloson! Funny how things change, huh? Once his contract with the Rangers ended, he signed with the Islanders in July 2010, getting on the right side of that rivalry in my opinion, hehe. The Islanders have given him more of a chance to play in the bigs than any of his preceding teams and he has taken well to it. Last season, his first full one with the Isles, he played 81 games, scored 20 goals, got 33 assists and 46 penalty minutes. It also seems like he gets on well with his teammates.
I also knew him as the co-parent of a chunky black rabbit. Well, that is, before the other co-parent, Zenon Konopka, was traded to Ottawa and took Hoppy with him. Here is a photo of Hoppy being cute and chubby:
Parenteau told Vicky at a signing event that he missed Hoppy. Aww. Maybe he can find another rabbit to give a loving home!
