Free Agent Frenzy Spillover

White smoke! White smoke!

Brad Richards finally chose where to go next season: the Rangers, in a nine-year contract worth $6.5 million per year.  Good for him. I don’t have anything more to say about it; I just kind of wanted to use a picture of white smoke to finish up that ‘waiting for news’ meme started yesterday.

Get that money!

Edmonton Watch! Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been signed to a three-year entry level deal with the Oilers. While this means my friend Nicole won’t be able to see him at Red Deer Rebels games anymore, she reassures me that Edmonton is only 45 minutes from her, so she can continue to see him. Like I said yesterday, I’m keeping an interested eye on Edmonton. (I just love scrappy underdog ‘make the haters eat their words’ teams sometimes, what can I say?)

Czech Mix in Washington. (I did not make up that pun)

Tomas Vokoun has been signed to the Washington Capitals. I’m not sure what tack they’ll take with this one: Vokoun is older and more experienced, while Michal Neuvirth is young and talented in his own right. Will it be Vokoun as primary and Neuvirth as backup or the other way around? What about Braden Holtby? Perhaps Washington will become the new Philadelphia with regards to the goalie carousel.

Here you go, Vicky, this one's for you.

Matt Gilroy is trading the Rangers blueshirts for Tampa Bay swag. Gilroy played for Boston University, which is also guest blogger Vicky’s alma mater, and as an Islanders fan she was always a little conflicted about following him. (On a slight diversionary note, he’s a good-looking gentleman as well.)

No commentary needed here! Anthony Stewart has decided to forego Winnipeg and head over to the Hurricanes. This is interesting because the Thrashers and Hurricanes were intra-division rivals. But hey, I definitely enjoy seeing Thrashers not going to Winnipeg. Wooooo indeed!
