July Man of the Day stats

I was going to post this yesterday, but then some bigger things happened and this could wait. July just ended and we did a Man of the Day each day. I thought it might be fun to tally up our selections by certain metrics and look at them that way. I may not have been terribly great shakes at math, but I do like statistics. Plus I just want to look at patterns in our Man of the Day selections.

We picked 31 Men of the Day. Of those 31, we chose

9 centers (includes Kopitar and Ryan, who plays 2 positions)
5 left-wingers (includes Kopitar and Ryan)
4 right-wingers
1 nonspecific forward
6 defensemen
6 goaltenders

1 captain
6 alternates

13 Canadians
10 Americans
2 Czechs
1 Slovenian
1 Frenchman
1 Swede
1 Russian
1 Finn
1 Austrian

By birth years, we ran the gamut from people born before America’s bicentennial to people too young to remember any president before Clinton, but tended to center around people who are basically my age.

1974: 1
1975: 1
1976: 1
1977: 1
1980: 1
1981: 1
1983: 3
1984: 2
1985: 2
1986: 3
1987: 7
1988: 3
1989: 1
1990: 1
1991: 2
1992: 1

By birth month, it seems like we picked a lot of guys born either in spring or summer, including four boys of July.

January: 3
February: 2
March: 4
April: 3
May: 2
June: 1
July: 4
August: 4
September: 3
October: 2
November: 2
December: 1

These are their teams for 2010-11, which do sometimes differ from their most current situation due to trading and such. The fact that we picked five Bruins is mostly my doing, as the three Blackhawks selections are for Krista. I do often tell myself “No Bruins today!” or “Let’s focus on the Western Conference.”
Colorado Avalanche 1
Pittsburgh Penguins 2
Los Angeles Kings 1
Chicago Blackhawks 3
Dallas Stars 1
Anaheim Ducks 1
Montreal Canadiens 1
Edmonton Oilers 2
Philadelphia Flyers 1
Boston Bruins 5
Atlanta Thrashers 1
Washington Capitals 3
Vancouver Canucks 2
Toronto Maple Leafs 1
New York Islanders 1
Minnesota Wild 1
Other 4

Numbers are fun!
