Man of the Day 11/11: Brandon Dubinsky

Brandon Dubinsky

Born April 29, 1986 (age 25) in Anchorage, Alaska, USA

Left winger for the New York Rangers

We need more Rangers for MotD, so here’s one! Brandon played in Alaska as a youngster before joining the WHL’s Portland Winter Hawks in 2002. Even after he was picked by the New York Rangers in 2004, he stayed with Portland for two more years. He joined the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack (now the Connecticut Whale) in the 2006-07 season and made his NHL debut in March 2007, although he didn’t score his first NHL goal till that November against the Pittsburgh Penguins (in a weird twist, his line consisted of Sean Avery and former Pen Jaromir Jagr). He did so well in his rookies season that his teammates voted him rookie of the year! In the 2008 season, he scored a Gordie Howe hat trick against the Phoenix Coyotes by giving an assist to Dan Girardi, scoring a wraparound goal and getting into a scrap with Dan Carcillo. He ended the season with one more point than the last.

At least he's not trying for a Toewsface here.

For the 2009-10 season, he began by missing a week of training camp before signing a two-year deal. His season didn’t start off very well, though – early into November he broke his hand in a game against the Calgary Flames and sat it out on Injured Reserve for a month. When he returned in December, he scored a goal against the Carolina Hurricanes that led them to victory, and he had career highs in points and assists that season! This young season so far has him with a goal and seven assists; I think the Rangers will catch fire with him fanning the flames.

He cleans up very nicely.
