Nashville Predators at Chicago Blackhawks
Goals: Craig Smith and Mike Fisher (Nashville), David Bolland (Chicago), Colin Wilson (Nashville)
Goalies: Corey Crawford (23/25. .920), Pekka Rinne (24/25, .960)
Not much good to speak of, except that we suited up five rookies: Marcus Kruger, Ben Smith, Jimmy Hayes, Andrew Shaw and Brandon Pirri. And Marian Hossa wore a third “A” due to the absence of our leader (see below).
Dave Bolland scored our only goal of the game on a one-timer. He was centered with Viktor Stalberg and Patrick Kane on the first line due to the absence of our leader (see below).
And those are all the good things from the game.
Bad news: Toewsbot (aka Jonathan Toews) has been temporarily taken offline (placed on IR) and will not participate in the All-Star Game due to minor damage to the unit’s left upper appendage (an injury to his left hand/arm that’s been deemed “not serious”). But he and Patrick Sharp will travel with the team to Vancouver. Let’s hope his exterior casing can be fixed quickly!
I’d normally get excited about seeing a hockey fight, but this one between Steve Montador and Brandon Yip was a big trip to Yawn City for me:
What. Was. This game.
No, seriously, we only played half the third period. I know the Preds brought their physical game with them, but the defense went to crap (there’s a reason why Monty, Sean O’Donnell and Nick Leddy have a +/- in the negative). Example: the second Preds goal. There was poor Corey Crawford, defenseless, and he couldn’t stop Mike Fisher’s shot alone. He was so upset he slammed his stick on the crossbar and broke it (perhaps channeling his inner Tuukka Rask).
Guys, come on. Can we stop acting like we can’t play when people get injured?
at Vancouver Canucks
The Hawks’ three-week road trip kicks off with the Canucks. Let’s beat them in their home barn again…please?
