Blackhawks-Canucks Game 3 wrapup

Chicago Blackhawks at Vancouver Canucks

3-2 Canucks (OT)

Goals: Ryan Kesler (Vancouver), Jamal Mayers (Chicago), Cody Hodgson (Vancouver), Viktor Stalberg (Chicago), in overtime Daniel Sedin (Vancouver)

Goalies: Corey Crawford (30/33, .909), Cory Schneider (37/39, .949)

The Good

Welcome back Patrick Sharp and our robot captain aka Jonathan Toews! Blackhawks Nation breathed a sigh of relief when they stepped onto the ice. Welcome also to our newest Blackhawk, Brendan Morrison, who was traded to Chicago from Calgary!

Glad to have you aboard, BMo!

The defense did much better this time, even with the hiccups that led to all three goals. And I can’t sit here and not mention the job that both goalies did – Corey Crawford and Cory Schneider were just amazing in net. For example – mind you this will be the only praise I’ll give a Canuck – Schneider made a wicked save on BMo. Ugh.

The Bad

Our faceoffs were just awful, which is why the Canucks outshot us in the first period. Could be just rust from the All-Star break and Toewsbot getting back to the game. Please let that be the case.

The bad part (for the Canucks, anyway) about the Schneider save on BMo is that the goalie pretty much gave BMo the puck before that actual save. Ha ha ha.

Also bad for the Canucks: their starting goalie (you know, Roberto Luongo) has faced the Blackhawks exactly once this season in three meetings so far. Sounds like someone has a case of Blackhawks flu, yeah?

I nearly had a heart attack twice – once when Niklas Hjalmarsson limped off the ice favoring his left leg and again when Toewsbot went to the locker room for a while. Thankfully they kept playing, but we don’t need any more injuries this season!

The Ugly

If there had been milkcrates to throw, I would’ve thrown them during OT because of the blatant non-call made when Viktor Stalberg was slashed on the breakaway. That normally would call for a penalty shot, but the ref didn’t give one even though he was RIGHT THERE WHEN IT HAPPENED. Stally was livid, and I’m sure the guys on the bench were cringing when Coach started screaming.

I have bad memories of the last time the boys were in Rexall Place (that goal horn still haunts me). Let’s exorcise the demons.
