Man of the Day 2/10: Theo Peckham

Theo Peckham

Born November 10, 1987 (age 24) in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada

Defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers

Continuing the Better Know a Hockey Card series, here’s Theo Peckham! (By the way, he too has a teddy bear-related nickname. He’s just Teddy, though, not Teddybear.) Peckham began play with the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s North York Rangers in 2003-04. He then jumped to the OHL-level Owen Sound Attack for three seasons. (Lucky for him there are so many good junior opportunities in Ontario, huh?) Selected 75th overall by Edmonton in 2006, he went to the Oilers’ then-affiliate the Springfield Falcons for 2007-08. In that season, he visited Edmonton just once for his big debut, a March 2008 game against Columbus.

His frequency of playing in Alberta increased the following season as he was called up for 15 straight games. In this stretch, he notched his first point, an assist, against Nashville. Although he split his time between Springfield and Edmonton for 2009-10, last season he spent every single game he played with the Oilers. He scored his first goal, against Detroit in November, got two more and added ten assists in 71 games. He also got a lot more physical, putting in 198 penalty minutes too!

Maybe after a successful fight.

Signed to a one-year contract for this season, so far Teddy has put in a goal, two assists and 74 penalty minutes for 46 games. During his rookie season last year, he also participated in a head-shaving event for charity, as pictured below. Check out Steve MacIntyre’s pink tresses, too!

Looking good, guys!
