PRAISE THE HOCKEY GODS, THE LOSING STREAK IS OVER.
Scene from yesterday: the boys practiced at Chelsea Piers, overlooking the Hudson River. This was only because the Knicks had their run of Madison Square Garden.
All of our goals came in the first period. How about two in two minutes? Three in four? Four in ten…whoa baby! The first came as a penalty shot for Jonathan Toews, who executed Toewsbot program “Five-hole” on Martin Biron a minute into the game:
A minute later, Nick Leddy slapped one in off an assist from Marian Hossa. At the four-minute mark Patrick Sharp got a snapper in from a Toewsbot assist, and Hoss got his own snapper off an assist from Patrick Kane at almost ten minutes. I know I wrecked my voice from screaming so much, but it’s totally worth it right now.
Everything clicked tonight – the penalty kill was tight, everyone was on their toes defensively (did I see you make some defensive moves, Kaner? Good job!), and there was very little turnover of the puck. There was a little hiccup with those two Rangers goals, but other than that, the game was solid. I cry happy tears.
Kudos to Corey Crawford, who won the team championship belt. He made 22 saves and totally rocked the net. And then there was that no-goal. The play was blown dead before the puck completely crossed the goal line because Corey wedged it under his pad and skate.
Now, what were y’all saying about wanting to trade him?
To sum up: we lost nine games in a row and snapped our streak by beating the second best team in the league. THE END.
Nothing was bad. It was all beautiful. You can’t make me find a bad thing from this game.
(Okay, the goalie interference call against Viktor Stalberg was bad. I should’ve known he’d get called for it – it’s become the penalty du jour lately.)
Nothing about the game was ugly, but this was me flailing around the house:

The boys are back in my (general) neck of the woods! Please let this be another win in the series!
