When I logged on to Twitter Monday morning, I was really surprised to see this in my Blackhawks list (yes, I have one):
I’d been wondering if Stan Bowman would go ahead and resign him – Danny would’ve been a UFA at the end of the season, and someone with his reputation isn’t a high commodity lately. But as Coach Quenneville has said in the past, he’d been a valuable asset to the Blackhawks, especially when he was on first line with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. Not only did he provide protection to them (his defense of both of them in the December 3rd St. Louis game is proof of that), but he showed that he can be an offensive playmaker as well.
And he’s not just a force to be reckoned with on the ice; Danny’s been a hit off the ice as well. He’s gotten along very well with his teammates, especially Kaner (their stalls are next to each other), and Marian Hossa has said that he’s a “great fit” in the locker room. And fear not, for Danny’s made it clear that his WGN Radio show The Bomb Shelter will be returning soon. His injury hasn’t stifled his love of music.
Speaking of his injury, Danny says he’s coming along on schedule with his rehab and should be able to lace up the skates this summer for training, and he’s excited to come back to play for a team that makes him feel so welcome. I can’t wait to see what he can do next season!
