St. Louis Blues at Chicago Blackhawks
4-3 Blackhawks (SO)
Goals: Bryan Bickell (Chicago), Alexander Steen (St. Louis), Patrick Sharp and Andrew Brunette (Chicago), Jason Arnott and David Perron (St. Louis), in the shootout Dave Bolland (Chicago)
Goalies: Corey Crawford (17/20, .850); Jaroslav Halak (37/40, .925)
The pair of goals in the second period that gave us the lead were sweet: first was the feed to Patrick Sharp from Viktor Stalberg:
Then came a pileup at the Blues’ net involving Patrick Kane and Andrew Brunette, and somehow Kaner got the assist on Bruno’s goal that was tipped in amidst the traffic. By the way, we’re now 25-2 when Bruno scores a point.
Corey Crawford won the championship belt for his wicked performance in this game, especially in the shootout. In a postgame interview from Tuesday, Kaner said this is the time of year when Crow just comes alive, like he did last year in the playoffs.
Dave Bolland won the game for us in the shootout (seriously, we had to go through more than the usual three, which gets dicey when we only have a handful of healthy shootout guys). It was his first career shootout goal, so it was doubly sweet that it was a game winner.
Johnny Oduya got 31 minutes of ice time, showing how valuable he’s become on the team. See, Winnipeg Jets? You didn’t know what to do with him, and you were more than happy to give him up. Your loss is our gain.
Here’s the best news of all: The repair process on Toewsbot Unit 19-C is nearly complete! Jonathan Toews should be cleared for contact any day now. The speculation is that he’ll be cleared but sit out the weekend games in time to join Duncan Keith in Minneapolis against the Wild.
The lead we had after Sharpie scored was shot-lived when Jason Arnott snuck in a wraparound goal past Crow. We need to learn how to hold on to leads and not blow them. Blown leads make Puppet Jesus cry.
The San Jose Sharks just HAD to ruin a good night. In order for the team to clinch a playoff spot, they had to win any way they could AND the Phoenix Coyotes had to lose. The Yotes played the Sharks and won 2-0. Thanks for nothing, you jerks.
at Nashville Predators
I just want them to win against these guys, is that too much to ask?
