Man of the Day 4/8: Kyle Clifford

Kyle Clifford

Born January 13, 1991 (age 21) in Ayr, Ontario, Canada

Left winger for the Los Angeles Kings

This MotD is dedicated to our friend Taryn, who lives in Vancouver and is probably having some feelings due to a certain quarterfinal matchup. Cliffy played for the OHL’s Barrie Colts for three years, and in 184 games he earned 100 points (45 of them being goals) and a whopping 327 penalty minutes. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 2009, and after the 2009-10 season was over for the Colts, he went straight to the Manchester Monarchs for their postseason. That fall, he earned a spot on the roster right out of training camp, and he got his first NHL goal against the Calgary Flames on December 9, 2010. He only earned 12 points this season, but he proved to be the enforcer with 123 PIM and even got a Gordie Howe hat trick on January 23rd against the Ottawa Senators. I have a feeling he’ll be earning some more penalty minutes in the playoffs.

I asked Taryn if there was anything she wanted me to add, and she gave me this:

Hmm. Well he seems like a totally humble guy whose family went through hard financial times when he was young and he wants to give back to them for all they did to help him reach his goals :’)

Now that’s a guy who knows the true source of his talent.

Nice haircut, just in time for the playoffs.
