Chicago Blackhawks at Phoenix Coyotes
3-2 Coyotes (OT)
Goals: Jonathan Toews (Chicago), Taylor Pyatt and Antoine Vermette (Phoenix), Brent Seabrook (Chicago), Martin Hanzal in OT (Phoenix)
Goalies: Corey Crawford (31/34, .912); Mike Smith (43/45, .956)
All hail the reactivation of Toewsbot Unit 19-C! Jonathan Toews made one heck of a comeback, scoring a goal on his second shift of the game.
Just when we thought the game was done, Brent Seabrook tipped in a rebound shot that Patrick Kane missed and tied the game with 14 seconds left in the third period. And I think that’s when my heart stopped again.
Boy, Kaner was right when he said Corey Crawford comes alive at this time of year: holy cow, he was a beast, giving Mike Smith a run for his money in terms of highlight-reel saves. And to think, some people wanted to get rid of him. I scoff at your nay-saying.
We went 0-4 on the power play. I was really hoping things would work themselves out with that, but for some reason it’s the same old situation as in the regular season. Sigh.
Another thing we need to work on is smoother line changes, as in “watch what the other guys are doing”. I counted twice in the game that the Yotes caught us in a line change and took advantage of it to score. Not good at all.
It seemed to be “Let’s target Captain Comeback” night – everyone went after Toewsbot with hits and head targeting. Even Shane Doan tried to rough him up a bit. As I yelled at the TV, “Get your filthy hands off my captain!”
Taylor Pyatt might feel my wrath if I see him. In the third period he boarded Kaner, sending him back-first into the glass. Muffin slid down to the ice and had a time getting back to the bench before resting enough to go back out on the PP unit. I hope he’s all right from that.
A little advice to my boys: turnovers are (delicious) food and have no business being in a hockey game. In other words, STOP TURNING OVER THE PUCK SO MUCH.
