ECSF: Devils-Flyers Game 2 wrapup

New Jersey Devils at Philadelphia Flyers

4-1 Devils, series tied 1-1

Goals: Matt Read (Philadelphia), Adam Larsson, David Clarkson, Travis Zajac and Bryce Salvador (New Jersey)

Goalies: Ilya Bryzgalov (31/34, .914) ; Martin Brodeur (19/20, .950)

Game Notes

– Potentially bad news for the Devils: Ilya Kovalchuk was out with a lower body injury that was confirmed by independent sources to be his back.

Matt Read snuck one in on the rebound to open up the scoring for the Flyers. the fourth line of Read, Wayne Simmonds and Brayden Schenn seem to be rather hot for the team. Reminds me of the Bruins and Blackhawks.

– There was a big ol scrum when James van Riemsdyk  went after the loose puck; Martin Brodeur went after him and was taken down by Danny Briere. In the end, JVR was called for slashing.

Down goes Marty!

Ilya Bryzgalov denied Zach Parise a goal on the breakaway, capping off a very hot first period for the Flyers.

– By the second period, the announcers kept noting that Bryz wasn’t acting as
erratic as he did in Game 1. He was very calm and level-headed in net and actually stayed there unlike the last game.

– But then the Flyers seemed to lose steam. Proof of this is that the SOG in the second were elebenty billion to zero in favor of the Devils (actual SOG: 12-2 Devils).

Then the Devils struck in the third period, the first time they’d ever scored four goals in one period:

Adam Larsson slipped one high glove side to tie the game.

David Clarkson chipped the puck in behind Bryz and was kinda shoved into the net.

I believe I can flyyyyyyyyyyy...

Travis Zajac snuck in the puck with the wraparound on the open side to make it 3-1 Devils.

– Maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to pull Bryz with three minutes left in the third period. Bryce Salvador got hit in the face by Scott Hartnell’s stick as he made a shot, and we all watched the puck go rollin’, rollin’, rollin down the ice for the ENG. It was kinda like the scene from The Golden Girls where Sophia rolls the bowling ball, walks away and says “Strike, mark it down” as the ball makes a slow roll to the pins and knocks them all down.

Now they’re taking it to the Prudential Center, aka The Rock. Maybe Mayor Corey Booker will be in attendance and let his awesomeness wash over the game.
