ECF: Devils-Rangers Game 3 wrapup

New York Rangers at New Jersey Devils

3-0 Rangers, Rangers lead the series 2-1

Goals: Dan Girardi, Chris Krieder and Ryan Callahan

Goalies: Martin Brodeur (19/21, .905); Henrik Lundqvist (36/36, 1.000)

Game Notes

– For most of the first period, the Rangers weren’t doing well at all,  and they were being held to their own zone

– It seemed like the more the Devils made SOG, the more Henrik Lundqvist robbed them.

Brandon Prust sent an elbow to the head of Anton Volchenkov, but there was no penalty even though they showed it on the Jumbotron. Twice.

– Rangers surged in spurts during the first two periods, but no forecheck = not in the Devils’ zone.

– This wasn’t just a game, it became one giant goalie clinic.

– Then the Rangers seemed to come alive in the third period. Dan Girardi got the puck off Ryan McDonagh in the faceoff and sank it behind Brodeur to make it 1-0 Rangers. Seconds later, Chris Kreider got the deflection to make it 2-0.

Kreider: “Yay I got a goal!” Marty: “You again? Crap.”

– Hank robbed Ilya Kovalchuk on the power play. In fact, I think he had Kovy’s number.

“Nope, sorry, not today.”

– Hank was being all RoboGoalie during the game.

Ryan Callahan got the ENG to make it 3-0 Rangers. Basically, it was Game 1 all over again.

Another date in Jersey. Can the Rangers take it to one win from the Stanley Cup Finals? Will the Devils tie the series? Questions will become answers.
